S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK
Art that bridges ancient knowledge with tomorrow’s tech
S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK explores how indigenous knowledge and advanced technologies can blend to tackle socio-environmental challenges and inspire new ways to build a more resilient future. Over 18 months, artists will collaborate with researchers, local communities, and cultural institutions in South America and Europe to develop creative responses rooted in the principles of Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK.
Buen Vivir is an indigenous philosophy centered on harmony between humans, nature, and community – emphasizing collective well-being, reciprocity and interconnectedness.
Lo-TEK (Local Traditional Ecological Knowledge) highlights adaptive, place-based technologies and vernacular innovations that have allowed communities to live sustainably within their environments for generations.
By bridging these worldviews with contemporary science and technology, S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK seeks to reimagine how we approach ecological sustainability, culture, and innovation.
At the heart of the project:
🔹 S+T+ARTS Residencies: 10 artists will collaborate with outstanding local institutions and communities across six South American countries, developing site-specific projects that integrate Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK with art and technology.
🔹 S+T+ARTS Prizes: Several Prizes recognizing South American artists whose practice embodies the principles of Buen Vivir and Lo-TEK, with a reflective approach to using tech for people and the planet.
🔹 Exhibitions & Showcases: +15 public events in South America and Europe to present the artists’ work and inspire dialogue, reflection, and cross-cultural learning.
🔹 Network & Storytelling: A network of artists, cultural organizations, scientific institutions and media across two continents to share insights and amplify indigenous narratives and ecological solutions, inspiring new visions for sustainability and change.
