Harvesting Community

LOGIQS x Georg Kettele

The A.I. Harvesting Community project by Georg Kettele and Logiqs B.V. aims to explore the capabilities of the CEM unit developed by Logiqs B.V. To transform the CEM unit into a market-ready product, production costs per square meter must be reduced to align with global industry standards. A monitor system is necessary to carefully track the growth process. The gathered data is essential for further growth optimisation.

Concurrent with optimizing Logiqs’ CEM technology, the project will develop an open-source, smaller-scale unit that can be constructed by individuals using readily available components, supported by comprehensive video instructions and shared construction plans. Feedback from the community will be integrated into the CEM development process, ultimately helping to create growing systems that consume fewer resources while providing more sustainable food options worldwide.

Beyond hardware development, Harvesting Community explores the practical and philosophical implications of integrating CEMs into urban environments and private homes. It seeks to reshape our understanding of food production systems and their spatial requirements in our daily lives. Our research investigates the feasibility and efficiency of growing various plant types, contextualizing agricultural space requirements by translating them into tangible examples of everyday consumption—such as calculating the number of grow boxes and time needed to produce ingredients for common meals. How many CEMs do you need to produce wheat and tomatoes for 4 Pizzas?

Harvesting Community will also have an open-source initiative dedicated to democratizing controlled environment agriculture through accessible technology. By empowering individuals to build their own grow boxes, we aim to create a collaborative global community where participants share data, experiences, and innovations.

“The selected artist was very passionate about innovations in the food system and had done some experiments on his own before the selection process to find out if he could make improvements to the food system.”

I started my own studio in 2003 when I began studying architecture.
The main focus of my work is on given, real, or virtual spaces, scale, and the transient moment of the here and now. Ongoing research into technology and development is a core part of my process, constantly allowing for experimentation within new fields, changing perspectives on, and approaches to, what already exists. Each project starts as a tabula rasa; the given is seen as a challenge, while limits represent an opportunity. The variety of tasks undertaken keeps me fit in terms of the creative process, while exchange with external partners serves as a source of inspiration.

Logiqs is an expert in mobile growing systems. These are systems where the production of plants is done on benches that move between one, or more growing departments and a working department in a greenhouse or a vertical farm.

In these two environments, the conditions in which the plants are grown can be fully controlled. To accelerate access to honest food we want to contribute to a fairer food production system.

A system that brings the most healthy vegetables and fruits to consumers without damaging the planet and its inhabitants.
