Afropean Intelligence Bootcamp – Nov. 4–7 2025, Johannesburg

Hosted by Fak’ugesi Festival and co-organized by Ars Electronica and RISC, the Afropean Intelligence Bootcamp will bring together for the first time all ten artists selected for the S+T+ARTS Afropean Intelligence Residency Programme.
Over four days in Johannesburg, this unique event will combine technical learning, artistic exchange, and collective reflection, creating a fertile space where art, science, and technology meet African cultural perspectives.

The Bootcamp features hands-on sessions led by tech experts, introducing artists to AI tools, machine learning, and creative coding practices. A collective workshop curated by CHRONIQUES will invite residents to engage collaboratively around the project’s four transversal themes — Representation & Identity, Urban Futures & Counter-Mapping, Taking Back Agency, and Embodied & Ancestral Knowledge in AI.

The program will culminate with the ENTROPY Symposium on Nov. 7, an open event welcoming a broader audience of artists, researchers, and policymakers. Through a series of panels and discussions, it will explore the ethical, political, and creative implications of artificial intelligence across the African continent — addressing sustainability, bias, and the dual potential of AI as both a tool and a weapon.
