“The Archive is Alive – Art, AI & Indigenous knowledge systems“
S+T+ARTS Afropean Intelligence Symposium.
May 28, 2026 – 9:30–6PM
Africa Museum, Tervuren.
What does it mean for an archive to be alive? Not a static repository of the past, but a system that evolves, transforms, and generates new knowledge through the people, communities, and technologies that engage with it. As the final symposium of S+T+ARTS Afropean Intelligence, this event takes that question as a starting point to reflect on 18 months of artistic research and international collaboration across Africa and Europe. Bringing together artists, researchers, cultural organisations and partners of the programme, the symposium highlights how artistic practices have engaged critically with artificial intelligence — not to reproduce dominant technological paradigms, but to question, redirect and reimagine them through situated knowledge, cultural memory, and local contexts.
