S+T+ARTS Cross-fertilization program: meet the selected projects!

S+T+ARTS PRIZE has created last year a new program – the “STARTS Cross-fertilization Program” – to support STARTS Prize recognised teams (winners and honorary mentions) to further explore their creative potential and have greater social, economic and sustainable impacts.

The Program considers the level of expertise of the STARTS PRIZE recognised teams and follows a method aiming at encouraging cross-fertilization. It provides support from different types of mentors, challenges the teams to explore and test their projects in different environments and co-organize masterclasses to share their experience with other individuals or organisations interested in sci-tech-arts projects.

Following an open call organized in the fall 2022, three teams have been selected to join the program:

+ALMA TOOLKIT

The team is developing a self-exploration toolkit for people with vulva. The toolkit will provide tools to self-explore vulvas, monitor vaginal fluids and learn how to balance the vaginal microbiome.
The project derives from another project entitled ‘Future Flora’, S+T+ARTS Prize 2018 winner.
+ ROCK PRINT

The Team aims to bring the technology demonstrated in the awarded Rock Print project from a proof of concept to a construction system for infrastructure. The Team is exploring the combination of Rock Printing with 3D printed shot-earth (3DPSE), a technology developed by Terrestrial. The goal is to overcome the challenges related to limited life span of Rock Printed structures.
+ URBAN CITIZEN LEARNING

The Team is developing a technology that facilitates citizen engagement in political decisions related to urban planning. The technology builds an urban data model (fuelled by open data) used to evaluate and simulate public policies inside a digital twin through a participatory process in which citizens train AI algorithms.

The project is derived from the project ‘Ciutat Vella’s Land-use Plan’ by 300.000 Km/s, S+T+ARTS Prize 2019 winner.
