Inspired by the #WirVsVirus Hackathon (15,000 participants in Germany) and HackCrisis (Poland), several Swiss organizations are bringing Switzerland together to develop fresh ideas and solutions in dealing with and against the coronavirus.
#VersusVirus is a Swiss-wide virtual hackathon on April 3-5 under the patronage of the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) and the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER).
In a 48h online Hackathon, #VersusVirus want to develop functional digital or analogue prototypes to counter the virus with tangible solutions. For this to work, the #VersusVirus Hackathon needs a strong, diverse community. People with very different perspectives and abilities are, thus, invited to join the event and contribute with their knowleadge and fresh ideas.
During the 48h, participants will collaborate to find solutions for the challenges that we are facing right now or will be facing the future in the following areas: Protection of risk groups, Prevention of proliferation, Data against Fake News, Economic impact, Quarantine & mental health, Hospital & Care, Family & Children, Training, Home & Team Work, After the crisis, Support & Solidarity, Art & Culture, Crime Reduction, etc.
Among the organizers of #VersusVirus are Impact Hub Switzerland, Panter, Powercoders, Opendata.ch, Gebert Rüf Stiftung, digitalswitzerland, Staatslabor, GEN Switzerland, Swisscom, ETH Entrepreneur Club, foraus, and many others.
Already a week before, from 27 to 30 March, the #CodeVsCovid19 took take place virtually. The #VersusVirus hackathon will build on the solutions and prototypes developed at this first event. The two initiatives build on each other thematically and the results are then jointly summarized, communicated and followed up.

In parallel, to support the participants on their way to the ingenious solution against Covid-19, #VersusVirus team is looking for volunteer mentors for the online Hackathon with expertise in Design Thinking & Creativity Methods, IT, Data, Web Design & Multimedia, Business Model, Presentation & Pitching. Further fields of expertise will follow.
