Kwasi Darko is a Ghanaian fine arts photographer and artist living and working on the African continent. His work shines light on people living in the shadows, oppressed and muted by a society meant to protect them. The poetic and dramatic nature of the work is influenced by his B.A in Theater and Arts.
The UGBS IIH is an established world class business incubation and acceleration hub under UGBS to
empower young entrepreneurs and innovators through mentorship and business development support.
Kwasi Darko’s residency centered on A Web of Tales, an animated project deeply rooted in African folklore. The animation combines elements of cultural coding and traditional Nsadwase music, reflecting Ghanaian storytelling practices and values. This project aims to preserve these cultural elements while reimagining them through digital media, showcasing the power of technology to convey and protect heritage. Web of Tales intersects with scientific and technological inquiry by leveraging animation, Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) to enhance storytelling. Animation serves as the foundation, allowing for the visual expression of complex cultural symbols and narratives. VR technology offers an immersive experience, enabling viewers to step inside the world of animation and engage with the story from within. Additionally, AR is used to extend the narrative beyond the screen, overlaying digital elements onto the physical world, thereby creating a layered experience that bridges traditional storytelling with cutting-edge technology. These technologies not only expand artistic possibilities but also open new pathways for exploring cultural preservation in an interactive and engaging way.
