theGATE Festival 2026
Save the date: 18–22 May
The High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart and Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg open their doors on 18 – 22 May 2026 to welcome artists, scientists and CCI professionals for a new instalment of theGATE, an initiative aimed at exploring the convergence of Science, Technology, Arts and Society.
The event consists of three pillars.
eCulture Convention
This professional event promotes debate, discussion and reflection on the challenges and opportunities in the confluence of art, science, technology and society as a key driver to face and envision the future. Leading international figures from disciplines such as science, artificial intelligence, creative economy, quantum computing, the humanities and art will participate in the event, proposing meeting points between disciplines.
The convention will include talks from and panels with multidisciplinary experts and stakeholders to introduce strategic concepts and missions for the current research and innovation ecosystem and society overall. Interactive Messy Studios – a format with smaller participatory but moderated discussions – continue the conversations and create momentum and connections, encouraging decisions between people and organisations about the role of multidisciplinary art, science, technology and society in R+D+I ecosystems and in shaping the future of Europe.
A preliminary schedule of the convention is available on the festival website and will be updated as more experts join us. Registration for the convention will begin in January 2026.
ReACH Workshop
With its triangular architecture sustained by an Advanced School, a CreativeLab and an Observatory of eCulture, the ReACH workshop series aspires to be one point in the net required by humanity to fulfil a stimulating future with the support of the artificial intelligence.
We invite artists to participate in an enriching workshop on high-performance computing, scientific simulation & visualization, as well as artificial intelligence designed to elevate your concepts to the next level. This five-day workshop offers a unique platform for participants to present their ideas and engage with a team of specialists. Our experts will provide interactive feedback and guidance, assisting you in transforming your initial ideas into well-structured, formal projects. Through collaborative discussions and practical support, you will refine your vision and acquire valuable insights to advance your projects.
Participants will be selected through an open call on the event website, starting in January 2026.
Festival / Art Exhibition
Never before has art been so close to science as it is now in the electronic age. Researchers at supercomputing centres, universities and companies alike have been collaborating with artists through programs like S+T+ARTS and reaping the rewards for many years now. This festival exhibition pulls back the curtains on this unique mode of collaboration and the art-driven innovation it contributes to.
The exhibition will feature residency outputs and reflections by S+T+ARTS EC(H)O residency artists Merve Sahin, Bernat Cuni, Oliver Kruse and Kirell Benzi. Other pieces by international artists and S+T+ARTS Family members will be featured as well.
