From September 7 to 11, 2022, Linz will once again host a “Festival for Art, Technology and Society” where participants from science, business, the creative and art scenes from the local region and around the world will contribute their perspectives.

S+T+ARTS projects & partners will be there to welcome you with various activities planned throughout the week!

On WEDNESDAY September 7, 2022: Opening of the S+T+ARTS Prize Exhibition

Wed Sep 7, 2022, 1:00 pm | Thu Sep 8 to Sun 11, 2022, 10:00 am – 7:00 pm

With the S+T+ARTS Prize exhibition, the Mensa building hosts another showcase of outstanding collaborations between players from science, technology and the arts. “Antarctic Resolution” by Giulia Foscari (IT), for example, draws attention to the dramatic situation of the continent of Antarctica, so inconspicuous in our minds, with her extensive collection of facts. Holly Herndon (US), in turn, presents her project “Holly+”, a true masterpiece of what machine learning is already making possible in the field of music.

On THURSDAY September 8, 2022: Repairing the Present workshop

Meet Dive into plastic, by Kat Austen (UK/DE) & Fara Peluso (IT)

4:00 pm – 5:30 pm

In this workshop, artists Kat Austen and Fara Peluso will introduce participants to bioplastic as a new material. We will discuss the ways that bioplastic is different, and the ways it is similar, to plastic. Drawing inspiration from our everyday lives, we will look at the lifecycle of the materials we have around us and the impact they have on the environment, both in terms of what happens to them when we no longer need them, and how they are made. During the workshop we will explore together how new materials can contribute to circularity and how this can affect our impact on the environment and the climate crisis.

On FRIDAY September 9, 2022: S+T+ARTS DAY

+ This year’s S+T+ARTS Day gathers artists, industry and research leaders under the banner of Repairing the Present.

+ Through a series of talks, discussions, and networking events the conference addresses the ways in which Innovation through art-driven interdisciplinary collaborations can contribute to mapping responsibilities as well as solutions for challenges posed in both the digital and the analogue world.

+ As part of the festival, the STARTS Prize exhibition is not only a great show. It will be the thematic starting point for a full day of lectures, conferences, workshops and performances around innovation for the 21st century.  The high-profile S+T+ARTS 2022 lineup and part one of the themed symposium at KEPLER’S GARDENS include names of two S+T+ARTS Prize winners Giulia Foscari and Holly Herndon. In addition, composer Charles Amirkhanian (US) will deliver a eulogy on artist and this year’s Visionary Pioneer of Media Art, Laurie Anderson.

+ The Ars Electronica Center demonstrates the potential of bringing together a technology like Deep Space 8K and digital versions of masterpieces from the Vatican Museums and the Louvre. For example, the co-production of Grand Palais Immersif and Musée du Louvre brings a digital, immersive version of Leonardo da Vinci’s “Mona Lisa” to Linz.

The Ars Electronica Award Ceremony in KEPLER’S GARDENS will bring together the winners of the 2022 Prix Ars Electronica 2022 & the 2022 S+T+ARTS Prize.

6:30 pm – 9:00 pm
