Wrapping Up the Mining Affect Symposium!
Organized as part of the European project ReSilence and the STARTS initiative
On May 26th, our Mining Affect Symposium at the Thessaloniki Concert Hall brought together over 50 diverse passionate minds to explore how data mining, cognitive labor, and digital connectivity are reshaping urban experiences and our nervous systems. Our invited speakers delivered fascinating insights enabling thought-provoking questions from the audience during our round table.
Tasos Varoudis (UCL Bartlett School of Architecture) shared research on spatial computation and machine intelligence and discussed how architectural spaces interact with AI systems to create new forms of urban experience. Mel Slater (University of Barcelona & Event Lab) presented virtual reality’s potential to transform how we perceive and inhabit digital-physical hybrid spaces, drawing from decades of pioneering VR research.Patricia Reed (Artist & Xenofeminist Manifesto co-author) presented a reimagined urban sociality through critical design thinking, exploring how feminist perspectives can reshape our understanding of digitally mediated city life.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us on this exploration of 21st-century urbanity!
