Let´s learn and talk about IP fundamentals and the strategies to implement to protect our rights when entering the market.
The next group session of STARTS in MOTION will introduce the different types of IP, what is patentable or not, how to protect an invention, a design, what are the requirements to do so and the associated regulations. The presentation will also approach the routes to envisage: national, European and international.
This group session is a starting point to work further with some of the teams, during one-to-one sessions, who need to improve this aspect to develop further their project.

Meet the expert
José Paulo Rainho
José Paulo Rainho (JPR), holds a Degree in Physics Engineering and a PHD in Physics (University of Aveiro). JPR is the Coordinator of UATEC – Technology Transfer Unit of University of Aveiro as well as Principal Investigator and Professor at the Department of Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering of the University of Aveiro, where he teaches Intellectual Property, Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship. JPR has a broad experience (more than 15 years) in Technology Transfer, namely, in Intellectual Property Rights registration, management and prosecution; in managing Innovation projects with companies at National and European level; in Valorization of R&D results, analyzing the IP and it commercial potential performing market studies and negotiating with potential licensees at national and international levels. JPR is responsible for the coordination of TT management, licensing, university-industry liaison and entrepreneurship at the University of Aveiro, where he currently supervises the participation of UATEC in 6 national, Iberian, and European projects. JPR has over 50 national and international presentations in Technology Transfer. JPR is also responsible for the coordination of Innovation and Knowledge Program of Aveiro Region Science Park as well as responsible of Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program of Aveiro Region Enterprises Incubator. JPR is also an entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the management of companies as CEO and CTO. In the Educational private sector, JPR was also Past President of Talent ID, a non-for-profit organization that develops applied and fundamental research in the areas of Design, Marketing and Communication.
