For a brave new Brussels

From 22 until 26 October 2018, MAAT – the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon – is organising a LAB in the margin of the exhibition For a Brave New Brussels.

The initiative for this project was taken by the curator Stéphanie Pécourt, BOZAR and GLUON, with the support of the Brussels-Capital Region, and is organised on the occasion of the visit of the King and Queen of Belgium to Portugal.

The exhibition For a Brave New Brussels at MAAT will feature 10 installations and 2 in situ creations by artists who live in Brussels, in addition to several talks.

The works on show each invite the spectator to think critically about the future role of artists in contemporary cities and the potential for a dialogue between the arts and industry.

During the Conference and Debate section, October 23, Eurico Neves (Inova +) will introduce the STARTS (Science, Technology and the Arts) initiative of the European Commission and why the Arts are important for Europe’s competitiveness, innovation and research. He will also talk about what is expected from artists, what they can provide within innovation projects and give further insight into the role of the STARTS Residencies and the STARTS Ecosystem projects within this dialectic.
